What is St Monday

Shoemakers would often work very hard throughout the week, mostly in their workshops appended to their houses. By Saturday night they were ready to relax and allegedly often spent much of the weekend in the local pub. St Monday was common parlance for the Monday off. Of course many shoemakers were self employed so they simply had to make up the time during the rest of the following week !
